I'm Still Here... With Explainations and Apologies

Hello, everyone...

I'm so sorry that I've been MIA for so much of the summer. I've been trying to check in here and there when I can, through facebook or the blogosphere and I truly had every intention of getting back to more regular posting a couple of weeks ago. But you know how life goes.... Just when you think things are finally settling down, something else happens and the world goes spinning out of control, all over again.

There have been some very sad events for our family over the past few months. In mid-July, my husband's 65 year old uncle, (who has early onset Alzheimer's Disease) went missing, several hours away from his home in Maryland. From the look of things, his car ran out of gas on a very rural, desolate stretch of highway, in Pennsylvania. According to the state police, it's an area where the nearest store, gas station or residential area is miles and miles away, in any direction. The area surrounding the highway is densely wooded, which has made the ground and air searches they've performed, quite difficult. To date, we've had absolutely no leads... no clues whatsoever, as to where he is or what has happened to him. Unfortunately, the more time passes, the less hope we have of a positive outcome.

Sadly, we've also lost 2 extended family members, a very dear friend and most recently and so tragically, the son of long-time friends, at the age of 28.  (he was also our daughter's first boyfriend and they were still close friends) We're all still in shock, truth be told. To say that it's been nearly impossible to focus on much, other than getting through it all with some semblance of sanity in tact, would be an understatement. For those of you who are so inclined, prayer and positive thoughts are very much in need and would be so greatly appreciated by me and by my family at the moment.

To the wonderful friends who already know about some of this, I can't thank you enough for all of your kind words, thoughts, prayers and concern. I've said it many times over the years, but I just have to repeat myself... The blogosphere is seriously one of the most amazing, supportive communities that I've ever been a part of and I thank you all, from the bottom of my heart.

So.... I've started to attempt to cook a few actual meals again and I do have a few posts in the works. It's taking a little more time than usual for me to get them up and running, but I thought I'd post a little sneak peek at what I'm working on...

Thank you all so, so much for hanging in there with me.

Much Love and Many Blessings,

Mary

  1. Mary, i am definitely of that inclination and will keep your loved ones in my prayers. That is so sad about your dh uncle. Your friend who lost her son, will need a lot of prayers and support. My sister 's son was hit by a car at 18 and killed, and if she didn't have strong faith she wouldn't have made it. There is nothing worse than burying your child.
Life is first, blogging will wait!
    Take care!

    1. Thank you Kat'leen... We know the pain only too well, my dear. His family was there for us when we lost our precious youngest daughter. (she would have been 12 last month) As a parent, you never expect to bury one of your children. It's not something that you ever get over, but as it was for your sister, our faith, family and friends have helped us to heal and move forward as much as we're able. Your kind thoughts and prayers are so very much appreciated, as are you, my sister of Eire. Hugs to you.

  2. You have no need to make apologies to us for focusing on the things that needed you this summer. Maybe, getting back to doing the little things will help you cope with all the sadness and stress. I hope so! ~ Maureen

    1. Maureen... I think you're right, my friend. It is the little things that help to get you back on track when life has gone off the rails. It's felt good to get some pots and pans dirty after so many sandwiches and take-out meals. Putting a few posts together feels a bit more like my normal routine, too. (whatever "normal" is, that is. lol) Thank you so much for checking in during all of this madness. Your friendship and support have been greatly appreciated. XOXO

  5. Mary, I am deeply saddened by all of this news. Seems like feast or famine in the news department. Hopefully, you have run through all of the bad and are opening your arms to the good. Will keep you in my prayers. I know that it is difficult to be surrounded by so much sadness at once.
