Just in case you haven't been to my other blog ~ Spilled On The Kitchen Table ~ lately, (or at all) I wanted to announce a new series of tutorials that I'm doing there. It's called "Bling Out Your Blog".
In it, I'll be covering different ways to help you personalize your blog. It will include tips on using the Blogger Template Designer, editing HTML code and how to use some of the awesome outside resources that are available to help make your blog, well... a little bling-ier.
To be honest, since I started working on these tutorials, I've actually had some second thoughts about the changes I've recently made to the look of this blog and I'll probably be changing things up again here in the coming days. I don't know where my head was at when I chose the color palette. When I look at it, all I can think is "Hmmm, 50 shades of gray" And yes, I read the book and I'm not sure where my head was at then, either. 'Nuf said. Anywhoooo...
These are the 2 "basics" tutorials posted, so far:
1) How To Re-Size Your Photos In Blogger
(which includes a mini tutorial ~ Changing The Dimensions of your Blog)
2) How To Back Up Your Blog
I'm starting with the basics, geared more toward bloggers who've never attempted to make any changes to the templates they chose when they began blogging, but I'll be getting into more advanced tutorials as the series moves forward. All of the tutorials are for Blogger hosted blogs only, simply because I'm not familiar with the inner workings of any of the other blog hosting sites.
Here are a few that I have in the works for future tutorials:
How To Make A Photo Collage, How To "Watermark" Your Photos, How To Make A Custom Header For Your Blog, How To Make A Custom Grab Button For Your Blog and How To Create and Install A Social Media Icon Bar
In the spirit of full disclosure, I have to state that I'm not a professional web designer or graphics expert, so I certainly don't have all of the answers. What I know, I've learned either through trial and error, (strong emphasis on the error part here) or from bits and pieces from other bloggers who've been kind enough to post their tips and tricks over the years.
If you're looking to make some changes to your blog, but aren't totally sure how to achieve them, I hope you'll check the tutorials out. Just click on the names of the currently posted tutorials above, or click on the Spilled On The Kitchen Table blog button in my side bar to check them out.
As an aside, if you were hoping to find a new recipe post today, I have some that are almost ready and one of them should be up in the next 24 hours or so.
Be well,
Mary

Hi Mary, I just became a new follower on your other blog too :-) didn't know you had another blog, just shows where my mind has been ...lol! Love the fifty shades of gray comment, you cracked me up..lol! Have a nice evening, hugs jennifer
ReplyDeleteLOL Jennifer... Thanks for following on the other blog. It isn't required by any means, but it was so nice of you to do. Ugh. That book. I could have kicked myself for wasting the $9.99 on my Kindle account. I hear that they're still planning to make a movie out of it. Well, that's one movie I won't be seeing. Have a great Easter! xoxo
DeleteI didn't read that book. I don't know if it was the hype or what... Anyway, I am already following the other blog. So, it's all good:)
ReplyDeleteYou didn't miss anything, Rob. lol I actually have a hard time even calling it a book.
DeleteThanks Mary! I have neglected my blogs a bit this past year and I think your tutorials will be great! Looking forward to seeing them.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sue! I hope you can find something throughout the series that you can use. :~)
DeleteIt's about time I put some effort into the layout so I'll be following along!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Maureen! Hope I can help. I tend to get a little bored with my blog layout after a while, so I've done plenty of experimenting. lol Every time I make a change, I tell myself that it's going to be the "last one" for a while. You'd think I'd have learned by now. ;~)
